Essential Oil Recipes

History tells us that the rich and varied aromas and healing properties gleaned from nature’s bounteous array of plants have long been used and treasured, to anoint, to scent, and to medicate, for thousands of years. During that time they have doubtless been combined in limitless ways, both to adapt them for use and to alter and add subtle nuances to their aromas.

Today we have the best of both worlds, the old and the new, as we combine modern science and age-old materials to bring a new dimension to the use of essential oils and essential oil blends. Here are just a few recipe ideas to introduce you to the possibilities awaiting you.

Let’s begin with something totally simple – a recipe for fresh-smelling cupboards and drawers. Simply add a few drops of your favorite essential oil or oil blend to some cotton wool balls and scatter them throughout your cupboards and drawers. Your clothes and other things will give off a light, pleasing scent, and the drawers and cupboards will do the same. Easy!

Here’s another idea: mix ½ teaspoon of lemon essential oil and four ounces of olive oil to produce a fragrant wood polish that will both feed the wood and provide a fresh, citrusy smell. Or buy a container of unscented liquid soap and fill a pump dispenser with the soap, adding 20 drops of your favorite scent – lemon, orange, any of the florals, pine, tea tree, you name it. Mix, and feel refreshed each time you use it to bathe or shower, or just to wash your hands.

These are just a few simple ideas to get you started on an exciting journey of discovery. Visit an online website to find more recipes, or connect with your local doTerra consultant for ideas.
